One Dataset. Multiple Salesforce Orgs. Less Repetitive Work.
One Dataset. Multiple Salesforce Orgs. Less Repetitive Work.
Preparing test data across multiple Salesforce environments just got a whole lot easier.
If you work with Salesforce, chances are you're managing more than one environment.
There's your development sandbox, where new features take shape. A QA environment, where everything gets tested. A UAT sandbox, where business users check that things work as expected. And perhaps a few more environments for different teams or projects.
Each environment needs data. Not just any data, but realistic records with the right relationships to make testing meaningful.
And that's where things can get repetitive.
You select the data you need, discover its related records, choose the fields, and transfer everything into a sandbox.
Then you do it all over again for the next environment.
What if you could prepare that data once and send it to all the environments that need it?
That's exactly what our latest SmartSeed update makes possible.
Discover once. Transfer to multiple environments.
We've introduced multi-target orchestration, a new way to manage test data transfers across several Salesforce environments.
Instead of preparing and running a separate transfer for each sandbox, you can now select multiple destinations and manage the entire operation from one place.
SmartSeed discovers your selected records and their relationships once, then coordinates the transfer to each destination.
Each environment has its own execution and progress, so you can see exactly what's happening without switching between separate transfer operations.
The result? Less repetition, fewer manual steps, and more time to focus on building and testing.
One place to see how everything is going
Sending data to multiple environments is useful. Knowing what happened in each one is just as important.
That's why we've introduced a dedicated orchestration experience.
You can follow the progress of your transfer across all selected destinations, see which environments have completed, and review the results individually.
For each destination, SmartSeed shows how many records were created or updated.
And because each destination is handled independently, one environment taking longer doesn't have to hold up the others.
You can also return to the orchestration screen to review the results of a previous transfer.
No more wondering whether a particular sandbox received the data or searching through separate transfer histories to find out.
Finished testing? Now you have more ways to clean up.
Test data is useful while you're developing and testing. But once the work is finished, you don't always want to leave those records behind.
We've added two ways to give you more control over cleanup.
1. Delete records created by a particular transfer
Imagine you've just completed a round of testing and want to remove the records that transfer introduced, without disturbing unrelated data.
With Delete Run Records, you can review the records created by a specific transfer and initiate their removal.
SmartSeed checks which records are eligible for deletion and applies safeguards to protect records that have changed or are needed by other records.
There's one important distinction: this option removes eligible records created by that transfer. Records that the transfer only updated are not deleted through this option.
That gives you a more targeted way to clean up after a test.
2. Clean up multiple environments together
Sometimes you need a broader cleanup.
Perhaps you're preparing several sandboxes for another testing cycle, or you simply want to remove data previously transferred by SmartSeed.
With the enhanced Delete All Records in Target feature, Pro users can now select multiple environments for cleanup from one place.
SmartSeed handles each environment independently and shows the progress and outcome of each deletion.
Unlike deleting records from one particular transfer, this option covers SmartSeed-tracked data across transfers, including records that SmartSeed previously updated.
It's a convenient way to prepare your environments for their next use, without initiating a separate cleanup for every destination.
How to get started
If you're already familiar with SmartSeed, the new workflow builds on the way you select and prepare data today.
Step 1: Prepare your data. Select the Salesforce objects, fields, and related records you want to transfer, just as you normally would.
Step 2: Choose your destinations. With SmartSeed Pro, select the target environments that should receive your data.
Step 3: Review and start. Check the planned transfer and start the operation.
Step 4: Follow the progress. Watch each environment's status and review how many records were created or updated.
Step 5: Clean up when needed. Once testing is complete, use the appropriate deletion option to remove eligible records from a particular transfer or perform a broader cleanup.
The idea is simple: prepare your data once, distribute it where it's needed, and manage the results from one place.
Built for the way Salesforce teams actually work
Whether you're a developer working across sandboxes, a QA engineer preparing environments for testing, or a consultant delivering projects for clients, managing test data shouldn't become a project of its own.
We built this update to make that work easier.
Less time repeating the same selections.
Less effort managing transfers across multiple environments.
Better visibility into what's happening.
And more control over what happens to your test data when you're finished.
That's what SmartSeed is all about.
